Smartphones today are central to our lives, and personal audio is a vital extension of the way we use them.
A few weeks ago when Apple, a world leader in smartphones, made announcements about the iPhone 7 and AirPods, there was a mixture of excitement and frustration around the latest news.
We received our first batch of CNC'ed samples, and we're proud to report that The Dipper is looking just dazzling. Take a look at how the new CNC Dipper is outshining its older die cast counterpart. Not to mention our new packaging is definitely on point!
The Dipper came to be when two fashionistas, Tinsel founders Aniyia Williams and Monia Santinello, set out to create a new kind of jewelry.
That fact has made all the difference.
There are many areas of tech that could use more woman-centered products but, to us, the women’s tech space is the most egregiously underserved. That’s why Tinsel produces and champions women-centered tech that breaks the mold.
For the last several months we’ve been working towards making the year-old concept of Tinsel come to life. It blows our minds that we’ve come so far in such a short time! But the development process has really kept us on our toes. Here’s a little more about what it has taken to build The Dipper.
Jason Giles is a self-described Creative Solutionist who led Tinsel through the creation of our branding and overall visual aesthetic. We got him to sit down and tell us more about himself and the process behind developing Tinsel’s spirit, look and feel.
This week team Tinsel attended MAGIC in Las Vegas. MAGIC is the word's largest fashion marketplace event, held twice annually, and is the epicenter for showcasing the greatest in apparel, accessories, footwear, and manufacturing.
Aniyia unveils Tinsel's first cosmetic prototype, The Dipper audio necklace!
Watch this video to see an overview of how our audio necklace easily transforms from a necklace to functioning earbuds!
Aniyia also shares insights into the manufacturing process and what refinements will be happen for our next necklace prototype.
Phnam Bagley is a well-known industrial designer in the Bay Area who we had the privilege of teaming up with to bring the Tinsel vision to life -- an audio necklace with integrated headphone functionality. Our vision coupled with her fierce and precise design techniques brought The Dipper to fruition. We sat down with Phnam last week to learn more about her background and get an inside scoop on her design process.
Consumer tech products are all anyone seems to talk about these days. From the annual ritual of new phone announcements, to the ever-expanding wearable and app arenas, it’s clear that tech is the new black.
Yet there's something the Consumer Electronics industry has yet to fully capitalize on today: developing products for women. Very few tech products have been created specifically with women in mind. While smartphones, smart watches and fitness trackers have begun to provide many more options around color, material and finish, they still tend to represent a unisex and dare we say, masculine silhouette.
We requested your participation in selecting color finishes for our first tech jewelry product, The Dipper audio necklace a couple weeks back. The number or responses we received to our survey was not only astonishing (thanks for the love guys!). More importantly, it was very informative in making a final decision around color finishes.
Summer has officially arrived! We love the beginning of any season because it’s a great excuse to give your wardrobe some fresh updates, switch up your look, and play with new colors and silhouettes on-trend at the moment.
To celebrate the warmest season of the year, we pulled together five different looks that show off summer style, plus our newest and best accessory -- The Dipper audio necklace.

After 8 months of secrecy and making moves behind the curtain, we’re finally ready to tell the world what Tinsel is building. I was so nervous to share the idea with people when we first started last fall -- the wearables space is so competitive and fast-paced. But now, after all this tight-lipped silence, I’m ready to scream it running down the streets of San Francisco!
Okay, :::deep breath:::, let's get on with it.
We sat down to consider a few well-known women that we feel represents the core of what Tinsel stands for. So we started off by making a list of personality and style traits that we see in ourselves and our primary audience.
Everything behind Tinsel -- our company, our product, and our vision -- is centered around strong women. Tinsel women come in many forms, but she’s always a beacon of grace, grit, and get-up-and-go.
Today we launch our blog, a home for what will be our voice and message to the world.
We look forward to sharing our story, our journey, and having some fun along the way! But most importantly, we can’t wait to share the tech jewelry that we’re bringing to women this year.
